Ann Eliza Schmachtenberger was born in Stark county, Ohio, Jan.
24, 1824, where she grew to womanhood and was married to Samuel
Schmachtenberger her senior by one year. In 1865 they moved to
this county and located in Anderson township and located on
what is now known as the Tom Craig farm in Anderson township.
In July 1874, they moved to Marshall and from there to Terre
Haute in 1887, where the aged husband died in 1898. They were
the parents of Mrs. Ed Garwood of this city, Ottimer of
Roodhouse, Jariah of Oklahoma and Margaret, Ira and Eva, still
at the home in Terre Haute.
Mrs. Schmachterberger died in that city on Nov. 17, 1904, after
an illness of two weeks. The remains were laid to rest in
Highland cemetery on Sunday, Nov. 20.
